Louis Pasteur (1822-1895)
Abstract
El químico y microbiólogo francés, Louis Pasteur, nació el 27 de diciembre de 1822 en Dole, Francia. Hijo de Jean-Joseph Pasteur y Jeanne-Etiennette Roqui, obtuvo su título de Bachelor of Arts (1840) y Licenciado en Ciencias (1842) en el Royal College of Besançon y obtuvo un doctorado de la École Normale en París (1847).
Después de servir brevemente como profesor de física en Dijon Lycée en 1848, se convirtió en profesor de química en la Universidad de Estrasburgo, donde conoció y cortejó a Marie Laurent, hija del rector de la universidad, en 1849. Se casaron el 29 de mayo de 1849, y juntos tuvieron cinco hijos, de los cuales sólo dos sobrevivieron a la edad adulta y los otros tres murieron de fiebre tifoidea. Estas tragedias personales inspiraron a Pasteur para tratar de encontrar curas para enfermedades como la fiebre tifoidea.
