The incidence and prevalence of allergic diseases have increased considerably, so many laboratories are dedicated to the study of allergens, from the immunological, structural, and functional point of view. Immunoglobulin E is fundamental in allergic phenomena and its concentration increases notoriously. To establish a background by means of serum determination of total IgE by the chemiluminescence method as an indicator of allergic disease in patients at the Hospital Dr. Rafael Rodríguez Zambrano, a study was carried out to determine the presence of allergens. Rafael Rodríguez Zambrano, the present observational, descriptive, retrospective, and cross-sectional study was conducted in 267 patients who came for IgE testing during 2019, of which the female sex was the most prevalent, with a direct relationship between the values of eosinophils and IgE with a predominance of values equal to or less than 190 IU/ml. With the chi-square test a statistically significant difference was obtained, predominantly the association between normal eosinophil values and IgE value, by Spearman a direct association between both variables was observed, highlighting a marked eosinophilia in the group with IgE values between 1000 and 1200 UL/ml. It is concluded that immunoglobulin E is a reliable test to make a diagnosis of allergy

Human papilloma virus and its relationship with sexually transmitted diseases in women attended at a hospital in the Manabi Province, Ecuador

Sexually Transmitted Infections have acquired importance for global public health due to the extreme morbidity, especially in developing countries, for this reason the objective of analyzing the prevalence of the human papilloma virus and other infections of sexual transmission. It is a Descriptive, Cross-Retrospective study, the population consisted of all women diagnosed with HPV by cytology (PAP) during the year 2019 at the IESS General Hospital in Manta and by simple random sampling there was a total sample of 71 patients. A prevalence of HPV infection was obtained in the women attended to of 21.8%, the type of lesion at the cervical level due to the presence of HPV with the highest number of cases was CIN I or low grade with 71.8%, the 77.5% of the women had a previous infection with the virus, Chlamydia trachomatis being the most relevant pathology with 29.60%, 70.4% had their first sexual act at 18 years of age or less. he presence of HPV diagnosed by cytology and other sexually transmitted infections, especially Chlamydia trachomatis, is evident in the female population studied

Microorganisms isolated from patients with COVID-19

This study aims to identify microorganisms (bacteria and/ or yeasts) isolated from samples from patients held in the Intensive Care Unit of a Sentinel Hospital in the city of Maracaibo, with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19, during the period between January 1, 2020 and May 31, 2021. The antimicrobial susceptibility of the isolated microorganisms was also evaluated. The average age of the patients was 54.42 years, with a predominance of males (56.00%) and adults (66.00%). 41.75% (89/206) of the cultures were positive. In 72% (36/50) of patients, mixed cultures with bacteria and yeast were obtained. In bacteria, the observed resistance rate to all antibiotics was high (> 50.00%). All strains were multi-resistant. Antifungal resistance was variable according to the drug used, voriconazole (8.57%), fluconazole (3.57%); whereas, for caspofungin, total sensitivity (100.00%) was observed. The most frequent microorganisms were: Candida albicans Complex (17.45%), Acinetobacter baumannii/calcoaceticus Complex (15.30%) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (13.96%), results that show the predominance of these opportunistic pathogens as possible causes of colonization and / or co-infections in patients affected by COVID-19; as well as its manifest resistance to multiple antimicrobials

Level of knowledge on preventive measures against intestinal parasitoses in parents, Portoviejo-Ecuador

Intestinal parasitosis are infections that can be caused by the ingestion of cysts (or oocysts) of protozoa, eggs, helminth larvae or by the penetration of larvae transcutaneous. One of the main bases to prevent them is the fulfillment of basic hygienic measures. The purpose of this research is to determine the level of knowledge about preventive measures for intestinal parasitosis among parents of the Municipal School of Portoviejo, Ecuador. An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional and prospective study was carried out, in which 217 families who wished to contribute to the study were evaluated and a survey was conducted. Most of the parents were found to be between 39 and 49 years of age, with a higher education level and a home occupation; as regards knowledge of preventive measures for intestinal parasitosis, most of the parents showed a "good" level of knowledge, according to the classification made here. It is concluded that the parents of the Ciudadela Municipal know about the norms of prevention against intestinal parasitosis, which should contribute to improve the quality of life of the population

Knowledge of the Human Papilloma Virus and its vaccine in young people in Latin America. Systematic Review

Human papillomavirus is a sexually transmitted infection that affects millions of people around the world. It is a public health problem due to its association with cervical cancer. The objective is to know the level of knowledge that young people have about HPV and its vaccine in Latin America. The research was qualitative descriptive, using the structure of the PRISMA method, as a search tool in various databases of high academic prestige. The systematic review showed that young people had low levels of knowledge about HPV and the vaccine, but their knowledge about HPV, its prevention and its relationship with cervical cancer increased after the educational intervention, achieving a comprehensive understanding of the HPV situation among young people, focusing on the importance of prevention and education to reduce morbidity and mortality from cancers associated with this infection. The study is expected to be a valuable resource for health professionals, researchers and public policy makers seeking effective strategies to protect the health of young people in the region
