Identification of natural fractures in carbonate reservoirs through well logs and geomechanical analysis
Abstract
The study aims to identify the types and disposition of natural fractures in carbonate lithology reservoirs, considering their influence on the development and management of these resources. Theoretically, it explores the relationship between the geomechanical stress pattern and rock properties, differentiating between brittle and ductile behavior. The methodology includes the analysis and interpretation of data collected during drilling, as well as the use of conventional well logs, advanced technology, core samples, and geomechanical analysis. The results show that the characteristics of the fractures, such as size, distribution, orientation, and aperture, are closely related to geomechanical stresses and the structural conditions of the
reservoir. The conclusions emphasize that a detailed understanding of these fractures is essential to optimize hydrocarbon production and the management of carbonate reservoirs. Finally, the study’s findings provide a comprehensive framework for the characterization of natural fractures, thus contributing to the better utilization of natural resources.
