Prácticas ambientales, sociales y de gobernanza y su incidencia en el costo de capital y riesgo de insolvencia en el sector energético brasilero

Resumen

Las prácticas ESG (Ambientales, Sociales y de Gobernanza) han surgido como medidas implementadas a nivel corporativo que buscan garantizar la sostenibilidad y creación de valor a largo plazo. El objetivo del estudio es examinar la relación entre las prácticas ESG, el costo de capital y el riesgo de insolvencia en mercados emergentes, centrándose en las compañías del sector energético de Brasil. La metodología es cuantitativa; los datos financieros provienen de Bloomberg Finance y EMIS University Global. Las variables utilizadas en el estudio abarcan aspectos de desempeño, riesgo, sostenibilidad y controles de tamaño y rentabilidad. Se emplearon tres modelos econométricos: Mínimos Cuadrados Ordinarios, Modelo VAR en datos panel y Mínimos Cuadrados Completamente Modificados. Los resultados sugieren que, en el largo plazo, las prácticas ESG de alta calidad pueden impactar positivamente el costo de capital y mitigar el riesgo de insolvencia de una empresa, brindando ventajas estratégicas y resistencia en mercados volátiles. El estudio demuestra que adoptar y fortalecer las prácticas ESG puede ser una estrategia empresarial efectiva para mejorar el desempeño financiero, la competitividad y la sostenibilidad a largo plazo.
