Strengthening wayuu cultural values in social studies teaching
Abstract
The objective of this study was to propose teaching strategies that allow for the reinforcement of Wayuu cultural values through the teaching of Social Studies. It was framed within a feasible project-based research, supported by descriptive field research and with a non-experimental design. The population consisted of Social Studies teachers from educational units located in the Jesús Enrique Lossada municipality of Zulia State. A survey technique was used, with a 27-item questionnaire designed as an instrument, with a polychotomous scale consisting of three response alternatives: (03) Always; (02) Sometimes; and (01) Never. This instrument was validated by expert judgment. Reliability was determined using Cronbach's alpha coefficient, which yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.82. The results were analyzed using descriptive statistics in frequency tables and percentages. The results reveal that teaching strategies are an opportunity for teachers to innovate their teaching practice, fostering in students the meaning of what they learn, rather than allowing them to be recipients of information that has no meaning for their lives as individuals in a society with diverse cultural values.
